La Furieuse is a French frigate, built at Cherbourg in 1795 - 1796 and launched on September 22, 1796 and armed in May 1798. The ship, which could carry 48 guns, was used to transport troops (and coffee and sugar) from Guadeloupe to France and armed only with 20 guns. In July 1809, she attacked a British merchant ship and was in turn attacked by a British corvette. Armed with only 20 guns and attacked by a much more maneuverable ship, she suffered heavy damage and surrendered. After making preliminary repairs, the ship was taken by the British to Halifax, where she was commissioned by the British Royal Navy - after a 2-year repair period - in 1811 as HMS Stealth. The ship first joined the British squadron blocking Toulon, then took part in several operations in the Mediterranean until the fall of the Empire, then left for Bermuda in 1814 to support British forces at the end of the Anglo-American War. La Furieuse was decommissioned in the fall of 1815 and sold in October 1816 to be scrapped at the Deptford shipyard in the United Kingdom.
